Erysiphe R. Hedw. ex DC. 1805

The genus is characterized by epiphytic mycelia, by the conidia being formed singly or in pseudochains and by the structure of the fruiting bodies (chasmothecia). The chasmothecia contain several asci and have mycelium-like appendages. The appendages can be
simple (section Erysiphe)
coiled or hooked at the tip (section Uncinula)
branched at the tip (section Microsphaera)
