Erysiphe caricae U. Braun & Bolay 2005 - (papaya powdery mildew)
This fungus causes powdery mildew of papaya. The name Oidium caricae has been often misapplied for Erysiphe caricae. Both species are morphologically very similar, but Oidium caricae is now regarded as a synonym of Erysiphe diffusa, a species infecting mainly soybeans and other legumes.
For a discussion of the taxonomy of Erysiphe caricae and other Erysiphe species found on papaya see Braun et al. (2017).
