Erysiphe quercicola S. Takam. & U. Braun 2007
The fungus causes powdery mildew on different tree species like mango (mango powdery mildew), cashew nut trees, oak or citrus in tropical and subtropical regions. Both sides of the leaves are affected and young citrus fruits can also become covered by the fungus. Infected leaves are deformed and drop prematurely. Yield losses on citrus may exceed 50% if trees are left untreated.
E. quercicola is closely related to Erysiphe alphitoides and like that species is also a common cause of oak mildew. Conidia are produced singly and have an ellipsoid or ovoid shape, measuring around 30-40 x 15-20 µm.
Synonyms:
Oidium anacardii
Oidium citri
Oidium mangiferae
Pseudoidium anacardii
