Podosphaera Kunze 1823

The fungi of this genus are widespread and cause powdery mildew diseases on fruit trees and various other crops. The tiny fruiting bodies (chasmothecia) each contain a single ascus with 8 (sometimes 6) spores.

The conidia always contain fibrosin bodies. These are refractive protein inclusion bodies which have an elongated or cone-shaped structure and can help in the identification. Oidium species have been described as anamorph forms.


Currently, the following species of Podosphaera have been entered into the system:
