Podosphaera aphanis (Wallr.) U. Braun & S. Takam. 2000 - (powdery mildew of strawberry)

This fungus is widely distributed in strawberry plantings. It can cause powdery mildew outbreaks with serious yield losses, especially in glasshouses. Mainly the lower leaf surfaces are affected. Fruits and flowers may also be colonised. The sexual ascospores overwinter on plant debris and are considered to be the main source of inoculum in spring, unless the dead leaves are removed.
