Alphanucleorhabdovirus (genus)

The members of this genus of viruses are similar to the 'potato yellow dwarf virus', assigned to Alphanucleorhabdovirus tuberosum. They are transmitted by leafhoppers, planthoppers and aphids in a persistent manner or mechanically.

The viruses multiply in the nucleus. The particles are bullet-shaped (about 180 nm long and 75 nm wide) or bacilliform and longer. They have a single-stranded, negative-sense RNA genome with 8-14 kb.
