Alphanucleorhabdovirus zeairanense

Assigned virus:
maize Iranian mosaic virus (MIMV)

MIMV has been described from Iran, causing similar mosaic symptoms as the 'maize mosaic virus (MMV)' (assigned to Alphanucleorhabdovirus maydis). However, MIMV is serologically unrelated to MMV and also infects other cereals like wheat and barley. Further, it is transmitted by a different leafhopper, Ribautodelphax notabilis (Ammar et al., 2005).

The particles of MIMV are bullet-shaped, with a size of 180 x 80 nm. The negative-sense RNA genome has a size of 12,381 nt and includes 6 open reading frames.
