Solenopsis Westwood, 1840 - (fire ants)

The genus contains around 200 species, several are invasive and have become major pests, biting humans, feeding on cereal seeds and interfering with agricultural activities. Nests are often build in open fields. The workers are about 2-6 mm long and mostly reddish brown.
