Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. sesami (Zaprom.) Castell. 1950 - (sesame Fusarium wilt)
The fungus is widely distributed in sesame growing regions and causes a lethal wilt disease on sesame. Symptoms include dark, purplish lesions or bands on the stems with internal necrosis. In the field, patches of plants develop the disease and die off. The fungus persists in crop debris and in the soil to infect the next crop. It can be also transmitted through seeds. Resistant cultivars are available.
