Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lentis (Vasudeva & Sriniv.) W.L. Gordon 1965
The fungus infects lentil and is widely distributed in lentil- growing regions. Infections cause an important vascular wilt disease and can result in complete crop losses. The symptoms include stunting, wilting of the upper leaves, deformation of the leaves and sometimes seed rot. Seedlings show damping off. The disease usually leads to plant death.
The fungus is soil-borne and in the absence of hosts can persist as chlamydospores for several years in the soil. The application of fungicides is usually not economical, but some resistant cultivars are available.
