Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceris Matuo & K. Sato 1962 - (chickpea wilt)

The fungus causes a serious seed and soil borne disease of chickpeas which is widespread in subtropical regions. It affects the root system and causes wilting. As the disease progresses plants exhibit drooping of petioles, rachis and leaflets. They can cause complete crop losses and an average yield loss of 10% or more has been estimated in some regions. The losses can exceed 50% under outbreak conditions, e.g. at the seedling stage (Navas-Cortes et al., 2000).

Vernacular names
• English: chickpea wilt
• Français: fusariose vasculaire du pois-chiche

Outbreaks develop under dry and warm conditions. Management relies mainly on resistant cultivars, but early sowing can also reduce the disease incidence.
