Fomitiporia mediterranea (Fr.) Murrill
The fungus is found in the Mediterranean region and in neighbouring countries. It causes wood-decay (white rot) on the trunk of grapevines and various trees. It can be also saprobic. On grapevine the decay often starts from large pruning wounds and can lead to leaf and fruit symptoms. The basidiospores disperse with the wind. The fruiting bodies are brownish with circular pores, 5-8 mm large. The spores are egg-shaped to nearly spherical, around 6-7 x 5-6 µm large.
