Bromus L. - (bromes)
The genus contains more than 100 species of grasses with a world-wide distribution. It includes many weeds which affect mainly cereals and other grasses in rangelands or turf. However, some species are considered useful grasses.
The inflorescences are usually drooping or nodding and have laterally compressed and compact spikelets. The leaf sheaths are closed for most of their length.
