Gaeumannomyces avenae (E.M. Turner) Hern.-Restr. & Crous 2016

This fungus is closely related to Gaeumannomyces graminis and has been previously regarded to be a subspecies of P. graminis. Compared to that species P. avenae is more more virulent, has simple hyphopodia and larger ascospores. It has been reported to infect oats and turf species like Agrostis (bentgrass).

For a taxonomic review see Hernández-Restrepo et al., 2016.
