Erebidae - (erebid moths)

The family was previously considered to be a subfamily of the Noctuidae and there is some disagreement among taxonomists about its status and which groups it should contain. For example, if it should contain (as subfamilies) the species which have been classified under the Arctiidae and the Lymantriidae. The family is mainly characterized by the wing venation of the moths.
