Xanthomonas hortorum pv. pelargonii (Brown 1923) Vauterin, Hoste, Kersters & Swings 1995 - (bacterial blight of geraniums)

This bacterium is an important pathovar of Xanthomonas hortorum that causes bacterial blight of geraniums. Infections start with small water-soaked spots on the lower leaf surface, often near the margins. These become chlorotic and necrotic and expand to wedge-shape areas at the leaf margin. Eventually, infected leaves fall off and severe infections can kill the whole plant. The disease can be transmitted through water splashes and through gardening tools, e.g. when plants are propagate through cuttings.
