Xanthomonas citri pv. viticola (Nayudu 1972) Dye 1978

This pathovar causes bacterial canker of grapevine and is of quarantine concern in several countries. It has been originally described from India, but has been also found in Brazil. In both countries it can cause significant damage. The symptoms include stem canker and necrotic lesions on the leaves, which can lead to leaf necrosis. There are reports of the bacterium also infecting certain weeds. Attempts are under way to develop resistant cultivars.

For a review and a discussion of the quarantine aspects of the pathogen see the EFSA Panel on Plant Health report, 2021.
