Uromyces (genus)

This is a large genus of rust fungi with more than 500 species. The genus has a world-wide distribution and its members infect a large variety of plants. Several species are important pathogens of leguminous crops like bean rust, Uromyces appendiculatus, or faba bean rust, Uromyces viciae-fabae. Most species of Uromyces can be distinguished from the morphologically similar genus Puccinia by having 1-celled teliospores.
