Schistocerca (genus)
The genus includes about 50 species of large locusts and grasshoppers. The desert locust in Africa, the Near East and south-west Asia is the most serious pest. Other pest species are mainly found in Central and South America. The adults are good fliers and have a body length of up to 7 cm.
