Riptortus Stål, 1859

This genus of plant-sucking bugs contains around 30 species and is found in tropical and subtropical parts of Africa, Asia and Australia. Several species are important agricultural pests of legume crops. For example, Riptortus pedestris is a pest of soybeans in eastern Asia and Riptortus dentipes attacks cowpeas in western Africa. Among the morphological features of the genus is an apical spine on the hind tibae.
