Pyrenophora Fr. 1849
The genus contains around 200 species of fungi, several are important plant pathogens infecting mainly cereals and grasses, others are saprobes. The asexual forms have been previously described under the genus Drechslera. The members of the genus form cylindrical conidia, rounded at the ends, coloured pale to dark brown. The ascospores are filiform, with septae and hyaline.
