Pineapple mealybug wilt-associated virus 1 (PMWaV-1)

The virus causes (or contributes to) mealybug wilt of pineapple, together with the mealybug species Dysmicoccus brevipes. The disease which can infect more than half of the pineapple plants in a field, or reduces the yield by more than 20%. The symptoms include downward rolling of the leaf tips, dieback and small, deformed fruits.

There are 2 other and similar viruses causing pineapple mealybug wilt, Pineapple mealybug wilt-associated virus 2 and Pineapple mealybug wilt-associated virus 3.
