Neocosmospora haematococca (Berk. & Broome) Samuels et al., 2011

Before the introduction of the one-fungus-one-name rule in 2013, Nectria haematococca was regarded as the teleomorph name for Fusarium solani (see Neocosmospora solani). However, molecular DNA studies have shown it to be a separate species. N. haematococca was originally described in 1875 from the bark of a tree in Sri Lanka. The taxonomy of N. haematococca was later clarified by Nalim et al. (2011), who designated an epitype that was collected from a dying tree in Sri Lanka. However, few other details exist on the biology of this species and many publications before 2011 on Nectria haematococca probably refer to Neocosmospora solani (see the above literature lists). For a taxonomic review see Sandoval-Denis et al. (2019).
