Nassella E. Desv.
The genus of Nassella contains more than 100 species of grasses which are mainly found in the Americas. Some species have been accidentally introduced into other regions and have become invasive weeds, like Nassella neesiana or Nassella trichotoma. Mainly grasslands are infested by the species.
The genus is characterized by the overlapping lemma, the bracts around the seeds. It is closely related to the genus Stipa and there is disagreement over the placement of some species between these two genera.
