Moorochloa eruciformis (weed) (Sm.) Veldkamp - (sweet signalgrass)

Moorochloa is a small genus of grasses, closely related to the genus Urochloa. The name is a replacement name for the genus Brachiaria which is taxonomically invalid, but has been used frequently. The Nomenclatural Committee for Spermatophyta rejected a proposal to conserve the name Brachiaria (Veldkamp, 1996) and suggested to publish a new genus. This replacement genus is Moorochloa' with the type species Moorochloa eruciformis (= Panicum eruciforme), see Veldkamp (2004).

Moorochloa eruciformis is mainly found in Africa, the Mediterranean region, and Australia. It can be a weed in cotton and other crops (Werth et al., 2011).
