Lemna minuta (weed) Kunth - (American duckweed)
This free-floating aquatic plant is native to the Americas, but invasive in Europe (first record in France 1965) and Japan. It is found in calm and stagnant water bodies, forming dense mats that considerably reduce the light and dissolved oxygen in the water. As a result, it suppresses other aquatic plants as well as aquatic arthropods (Ceschin et al., 2020). Lemna minuta is similar in morphology to Lemna minor, another common duckweed in many countries, but only about half the size.
