Lemna (weeds) L. - (duckweeds)

This genus of aquatic plants includes more than 10 species. They are small, less than 1 cm in diameter, and free-floating on the water surface. The plants multiply mainly vegetatively, but can also form tiny flowers and reproduce sexually. Some species are used as animal and fish feeds and may be farmed. However, they may also infest ponds and lakes. For example, Lemna minor is regarded as invasive in some areas and can pollute ponds and other stationary water bodies.
