Entomological investigations following the spread of visceral leishmaniasis in Tunisia

Abstract: Sandflies were sampled at 6 ecologically different sites in Tunisia using trapping and hand collections in houses and animal shelters. A total of 2,086 specimens were collected and examined, representing 8 species of Phlebotomus and 3 species of Sergentomyia. Phlebotomus perniciosus, P. perfiliewi and P. papatasi were the dominant species.
