This sandfly is found in the Mediterranean region, the Near East and parts of eastern Africa. It is a vector of visceral leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum (Díaz Sáez et al., 2018). Blood-fed females have been collected inside houses, but the main hosts are believed to be wild rabbits and other small mammals.
