Fusarium meridionale T. Aoki, Kistler, Geiser & O'Donnell 2004

The fungus is widely distributed and a member of the Fusarium graminearum species complex. It causes Fusarium head blight of cereals like other members of this complex but also infects other crops. It might produce nivalenol which is more toxic to humans and animals compared to the more common deoxynivalenol. Macroconidia are 4-5 septate, usually around 30-40 µm long and 3-4 µm wide with the dorsal side more curved than the ventral one.
