Euphorbia is a very large and widely distributed genus with around 2,000 species. It includes various species grown as ornamentals but also several weeds, the most important one being leafy spurge, a poisonous and introduced rangeland weed in North America.
The genus is characterized by their flower clusters, consisting of a female flower which is surrounded by male flowers. The flowers either have a pistil or a stamen and lack any sepals and petals. The fruits are capsules with 3 seeds.
