Epiblema (weed bioagents) Hübner, 1825
This genus contains more than 50 species of small moths. The larvae are mainly stem and root borers of Asteraceae and often induce galls. Several species are specialized on certain weeds and are regarded as beneficial biological control agents. The ragweed borer, Epiblema strenuana, has been introduced into other countries for the biological control of the weed Parthenium hysterophorus.
The genus is mainly characterized by the forewings (e.g. the wing venation and the absence of raised scale tufts) as well as by the structure of the female genitalia.
