Diaporthe amygdali (Delacr.) Udayanga, Crous & K.D. Hyde 2012

The fungus causes constriction canker on peach and almond trees which girdles and kills fruiting twigs resulting in direct crop losses. The disease typically appears in spring and autumn and is inhibited by cold temperatures. The fungus enters through lesions in the bark like pruning wounds or fresh leaf scars. Following the infection, elongated necrotic spots develop on the bark with a clearly defined margin between the diseased and healthy tissue. A gum also develops at the site of infection.
