Curinus coeruleus (predator) (Mulsant, 1850)
This small ladybird beetle is native to Central America and a general predator, feeding on scale insects, mealybugs and psyllids. It has been introduced into other regions (Bartlett et al., 1978). For example, it was introduced into Hawaii from Mexico in 1922 for the biological control of Nipaecoccus nipae.
After the introduction of Heteropsylla cubana into Hawaii it was also found that Curinus coeruleus is a very important predator for this psyllid. It was subsequently introduced from Hawaii into many countries affected by the leucaena psyllid (e.g. Follett & Roderick, 1996).
