Cryphonectria radicalis (Schwein. : Fr.) M.E. Barr 1978

This fungus is very similar to Cryphonectria parasitica and is also found on chestnut. It has been reported to be saprotrophic on chestnut, but a potential pathogen of Carpinus betulus. Apart from differences in the DNA structure, C. radicalis has smaller ascospores (Hoegger et al. 2002).
