Colletotrichum magnum (S.F. Jenkins & Winstead) Rossman & W.C. Allen 2016
This fungus causes an anthracnose disease of cucurbits and also infects other plants. The conidia are elongated with rounded ends and have a size of about 12-18 x 5 µm.
The originally description of this species was based on isolates obtained from watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) in the USA. C. magnum has been subsequently reported from other parts of the Americas and from eastern Asia with various cucurbits and other crops as hosts. However, most of these reports were either based on morphological features or on sequencing the ribosomal ITS section only. Therefore, these reports should be regarded as referring to the C. magnum species complex (Damm et al., 2019).
