Bacillus thuringiensis Cry34A-toxin (entomopathogen)
Cry34A is particular important in combination with the Cry35A protein as both together are highly toxic against certain insect pests like the western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera). They are, therefore, referred to as binary insecticidal proteins. Synthetic genes encoding one binary pair, Cry34Ab1 and Cry35Ab1, have been engineered for expression in corn plants, and they provide high levels of protection to corn against root worms.
