Anopheles amictus Edwards, 1921
This mosquito is found in Australia, particularly in northern parts. It can be common in some areas. It bites humans, domestic animals, other mammals like rabbits or marsupials, as well as birds. It is regarded as a potential malaria vector, a possible vector of Wuchereria bancrofti (filariasis), and transmits various other diseases like the myxoma virus which infects rabbits. The breeding sites are temporary and permanent pools, rice fields, swamp margins and also running water. It might even breed in brackish water like the edges of lagoons.
