Alphanecrovirus tessellati

Assigned virus:
olive mild mosaic virus (OMMV)

The olive mild mosaic virus infects olive trees in the Mediterranean region and has been found to be common in some areas. Several other plants can be infected artificially using viral RNA. It can be transmitted with the root pathogen Olpidium virulentus and other Olpidium species (e.g. see Varanda et al., 2015).

The genome of the virus consists of single-stranded RNA with a size of 3683 nt and five open reading frames. It has been suggested that the virus is the result of recombination events between olive latent virus 1 (Alphanecrovirus oleae) and tobacco necrosis virus D (Betanecrovirus nicotianae).
