Alphanecrovirus tessellati

Assigned virus:
olive latent virus 1 (OLV1)

Olive trees infected with the olive latent virus 1 either have no symptoms or show low vigour, dwarfing, bushy growth, fasciation and bifurcation of stems, or yellow and sickle-shaped leaves. This virus commonly infects olive trees in some regions. E.g. in Portugal infection rates of this and the related virus olive mild mosaic virus (Alphanecrovirus tessellati) can reach 30% with frequent mixed infections. The virus has been also associated with chlorosis and dwarfing in citrus, as well as with necrosis in tulips and tomatoes.

OLV-1 has a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome with about 3.7 kb which encodes 5 open reading frames.
