Olpidium virulentus (Sahtiy.) Karling

This chytrid fungus is soilborne and transmits the Mirafiori lettuce big-vein virus. The resting spores of the chytrid can survive in the soil for many years, harbouring the virus. The species is closely related to Olpidium brassicae and both names have been regarded as synonyms previously. However, O. virulentus does not infect crucifers.
