Akanthomyces (antagonists) Lebert 1858

The members of Akanthomyces are primarily entomopathogenic fungi (see Akanthomyces as entomopathogens), but several species have been also described as mycoparasites or as being antagonistic to plant diseases, including plant-parasitic nematodes. These include antagonistic strains of well known entomopathogens like Akanthomyces lecanii or A. muscarius.

The members of Akanthomyces have been classified under the genus Lecanicillium before 2017, but Akanthomyces has been described earlier and has taxonomic priority (Kepler et al., 2017).
