Agrilus Curtis, 1825
This is a very large genus of small wood boring beetles from the family of Buprestidae with around 3000 species. Several species are pests of forest and fruit trees, with heavy infestations often leading to death of the host tree. They can be transported with the wood to non-native regions and several species have become invasive. For example, Agrilus planipennis is native to eastern Asia, but invasive in North America and responsible for the death of many million ash trees there. The adults are typically 5-10 mm long, often with a metallic colour.
