16SrVII phytoplasma group - (ash yellows phytoplasma group)
The phytoplasmas of this group cause ash yellows (e.g. see 'Candidatus Phytoplasma trifolii') as well as various other diseases. Assignment to this group is based on the 16S rRNA structure. The members of the group are mainly found in the Americas and apart from ash trees, infect a variety of other plants such as grapevine, beans, onions or ornamentals.
