Bromus rubens (weed) L. - (red brome)
The grass is invasive in south-western North America, especially in dry areas. It survives by being unable to germinate at high temperatures during the summer when precipitation is unpredictable. Instead it germinates at temperatures around 20°C and is able to invade dry areas during the winter. Since it dries up during the summer, it becomes a frequent cause for wildfires (Horn et al., 2015).
