Xanthomonas euvesicatoria Jones et al. 2006

The bacterium causes bacterial spot on solanaceous crops like tomato or Capsicum. The disease is managed with copper-fungicides and resistant cultivars. Some strains also infect other crops like those previously classified as Xanthomonas alfalfae subsp. citrumelonis (bacterial spot of citrus).

Based on DNA studies of 7 genes, Constantin et al. (2016) have proposed that this species includes strains previously classified as Xanthomonas perforans and Xanthomonas alfalfae, as they belong to the same phylogenetic group (PG II). Alternatively to regarding Xanthomonas perforans as a synonym of Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, the names:
Xanthomonas euvesicatoria pv. euvesicatoria (Jones et al., 2006)
Xanthomonas euvesicatoria pv. perforans (Jones et al., 2006)
can be used. See also the closely related species Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria and Xanthomonas vesicatoria. Some of the X. euvesicatoria strains have been previously classified under these names.

Synonyms:
Xanthomonas alfalfae
Xanthomonas alfalfae subsp. alfalfae
Xanthomonas alfalfae subsp. citrumelo
Xanthomonas campestris pv. alfalfae
Xanthomonas exitiosa
Xanthomonas perforans
