Fusarium brachygibbosum Padwick 1945

This fungus has been reported from various countries and regions around the world, usually as isolated pockets. For example, in Europe where the species is of quarantine concern, it has been recorded in Italy (EFSA Journal, 2021).

F. brachygibbosum infects a variety of crops, causing diseases like rots, canker and leaf spot. For example, on maize it causes stalk rot (Shan et al., 2017). Some isolates are able to produce mycotoxins (Tan et al., 2011). In addition, it has been reported as a human pathogen (e.g. Pérez-Nadales et al., 2021).

For a review see the EFSA Panel on Plant Health report (2021).
