Erebidae - (erebid moths)

This family was previously considered to be a subfamily of the Noctuidae. Revisions of the taxonomy of this group have resulted in elevating it to a full family and including the families Arctiidae (tiger moths) and Lymantriidae (tussock moths) as subfamilies. These are now referred to as Arctiinae and Lymantriinae. The family is mainly characterized by the wing venation of the moths.
