Peronospora Corda 1837
This genus contains oomycetes causing a variety of downy mildew diseases, e.g. blue mold of tobacco or basil downy mildew. The genus is characterized by the equal branching (dichotomous) of the sporangiophores (also called conidiophores) where the branches are of similar size and the tips of the branches are pointed. The sporangia (also called conidia) are coloured and germinate directly on the leaf surface of the host plant.
