Triatoma dimidiata (Latreille, 1811)

This bug is an important vector of Chagas disease (caused by Trypanosoma cruzi) in Central America, together with Rhodnius prolixus. It feeds on humans and animals like dogs, chicken, squirrels and possums. Infestations are often associated with the structure of the houses and the surrounding environment like the presence of domestic animals or hiding places like piles of rocks.

In some areas T. dimidiata is confined to domestic environments, while in others it infests houses on a temporary or seasonal basis. In the latter case control is much more difficult.
